The Austin IRS Campus, located in South Austin, offers on-site child care, a credit union and cafeteria, as well as various shifts to fit your busy lifestyle.
This office also recruits for Data Transcriber positions in San Antonio, TX, as well as Contact Representative positions in Dallas, TX and Denver, CO.
The Austin Campus (which includes San Antonio) currently has Seasonal positions for the tax filing season. We began recruiting for Clerks, Data Transcribers, and Tax Examiners in early September.

JOBS AVAILABLE
Clerk sorts and opens mail, maintains files and records, files tax returns and other documents. Grade / Pay: Entry level GS-2 or GS-3 or GS-4
Data Transcriber enters information from tax returns into the IRS computer system. Grade / Pay: Entry level GS-3 or GS-4
Tax Examiner reviews tax returns for accuracy and completeness, reviews and codes tax returns for computer processing, resolves errors and corresponds with taxpayers to obtain missing information. Grade / Pay: Entry level GS-4 or GS-5
Contact Representative provides administrative and technical assistance to individuals and businesses primarily through telephone and/or face-to-face contact. Grade / Pay: Entry level GS-5
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
For GS-2: 3 months general clerical experience; OR a high school diploma/GED.
For GS-3: 6 months general experience; OR 30 semester hours (SH) or 45 quarter hours (QH).
For GS-4: 1 year general experience; OR an AS/AA Degree or the equivalent hours (60 SH or 90 QH).
For GS-5: Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent hours (120 SH or 180 QH); OR 1 year of specialized experience in bookkeeping or accounting; OR a combination of education and experience.
Note: Data Transcribers must pass a keyboard skills test and a 48-hour paid-training class.
Other Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
- Identity Verification: You must provide two valid forms of identification (one must be a State or Federal government issued picture ID). Other valid identification documents may include an original birth certificate or a Social Security Card.
- Background, tax and fingerprint checks are completed on all new employees.
- Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/59 is required and verified.
