You may also apply to participate in the Human Resource Investment Fund (HRIF) initiative, which can support you with college-level courses in certain career fields. This unique and cutting-edge program exists among all US Federal Government agencies. Its goal is to increase the internal pool of candidates for our critical shortage occupations, as well as help retain current employees.
HRIF provides tremendous flexibility to participants, who are selected through a competitive process and receive funding to take courses on their own time. They must be job-related courses that will improve your skills for your current job. Since September 2000, more than 9,200 IRS employees have been accepted into HRIF programs, backed by more than $11 million for courses in areas such as accounting and IT.
Many participants select courses that enable them to earn college credits. Feedback that we have received from participants underscores that HRIF funds have made it possible to pursue educational opportunities that would not otherwise have been affordable. 94% of participants who responded to a satisfaction survey viewed the program as beneficial to their career development with the IRS, and studies have shown that an increasing number of HRIF participants have received promotions each year.
