Mathematical Statisticians & Statisticians (Data Scientists) – Job Series 1529 and 1530

The Statistician engages in mathematically oriented statistical projects or studies in one or more of the following areas: survey sampling (design and estimation); modeling; or statistical research.

Operations Research Analysts – Job Series 1515

The Operations Research Analyst works to select and apply mathematics, economics, econometrics, and/or statistics appropriate to solving operations research problems, such as the development of computerized mathematical resource allocation models (e.g., simulation), regression models, econometric projections, or workload selection systems.

Computer Scientists – Job Series 1550

A Computer Scientist is responsible for the practical application of artificial intelligence and other technologies to solve problems in Internal Revenue Service (IRS) operations and programs that are not susceptible to resolution via mainstream technologies.

Economists – Job Series 0110

As an Economist, you will plan, develop, and monitor studies by using tax and information return data in conjunction with demographic and economic data. You will make projections, forecast data, and create computer-based models. You will write and review complex research planning and implementation documents.

Management & Program Analysts – Job Series 0343

The Management and Program Analyst is responsible for accomplishing various analytical studies, projects, and tasks to deliver programs, projects, and studies. The incumbent works independently and with management and staff on activities, including resolving substantive problems; improving the effectiveness and efficiency of program operations; and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, policies, processes, and procedures.

Social Scientists – Job Series 0101

A Social Scientist develops, executes, manages, and provides oversight to research activities using social science and statistical methodology to profile and evaluate market segments of taxpayers for compliance with tax laws and resolve critical problems and to draw rational inferences.

IT Specialists – Job Series 2210

An Information Technology Specialist is involved in the design, documentation, development, modification, testing, installation, implementation, and support of new or existing IT programs and services. In this role, you are often called up to resolve exceptionally complex problems in coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining programs; translating and interpreting functional requirements; and testing, installation, and documentation of IT programs and services.
