Computer Operator Job Series 0332

As a Computer Operator, you'll monitor and maintain the continuity of equipment operations and workflow on one or more of our large-scale computer systems. You'll analyze, isolate and resolve equipment, program or control failures that don't respond to standard operator commands, and you'll also perform special recovery activities and assist in testing and installing new systems.

Computer Clerk/Assistant Job Series 0335

As a Computer Clerk/Assistant, you'll support system users by resolving problems and errors in the posting and processing of taxpayer account data in automated tax processing systems. You'll also serve as the contact between the internal users of taxpayer account data and the system programmers concerning software and hardware problems.

IT Specialist Job Series 2210

As an IT Specialist, you'll learn and apply transferable technology skills in one of theseSpecialty Areas:

  • Applications Software
    As an IT Specialist in Applications Software, you'll translate business requirements and technical specifications into programming specifications. You'll code, test, debug and maintain software programs, and develop and customize applications software.
  • Customer Support
    In Customer Support, you'll resolve complex problems for internal customers and give them technical guidance in applying hardware and software systems. Learn to provide such services as installation, configuration, troubleshooting and customer training.
  • Data Management
    In Data Management, you'll develop and implement major systems to ensure the efficient acquisition, storage and retrieval of data. This will involve learning and applying new approaches to data mining, data warehousing and other data management applications.
  • Internet
    In the Internet specialty area, you'll work on complicated new issues that involve planning, design, development, testing, integration and deployment of Web-based applications that interface with existing hardware and software.
  • Network Services
    In Network Services, you'll design, develop, test and implement networked systems used for transmitting information in voice, data or video formats. Network maintenance will include both software and hardware (servers, hubs, bridges, switches and routers).

    In Operating Systems, you'll install, configure and maintain large operating systems, including system servers and operating system software. You'll also resolve complex issues involving systems integration, hardware strategy and disaster recovery.
  • Policy and Planning
    IT Specialists in Policy and Planning are generally mid-career professionals with considerable IT work experience. You'll perform strategic planning, investment analysis and control, workforce planning and the development of project evaluation standards.
  • Security
    In Security, you'll plan and implement procedures to protect data and ensure network security. Review and analyze proposed new systems, networks and software for security risks, recommend countermeasures and resolve new system integration issues.
  • Systems Administration

As an IT Project Manager, you'll develop and implement IT projects, strategies, plans and procedures. You'll also coordinate and facilitate the work of other analysts as you monitor and manage project resources and activities, and also identify and analyze IT systems requirements and environments.

Telecommunications Specialist Job Series 0391

As an IRS Telecommunications Specialist, you'll be responsible for voice and data communications systems, as well as local and wide-area networks. You'll plan and modify telecommunications systems, perform site preparation and installation, troubleshoot problems for customers, and also identify and take corrective actions on hardware, software, configuration standards, downtime problems and complex network systems issues.

As a MITS Operations Research Analyst, you will plan and conduct increasingly complex cross-functional studies and projects. You'll select statistical methodology and employ such advanced software programs as SAS, SPSS, Clementine and others to generate reports and make recommendations for resolving complex operational problems.
